# Quillote

> Quillote is a tiny code and Markdown editor for macOS, iPhone and Android, with Windows and Linux built from the same codebase. It opens local plain-text files and offers three views: Source, Live and Read. The public beta is 0.1.0. Live mode is the hook: headings, emphasis, code and links style themselves in the buffer you are typing in, while the Markdown stays on disk.

- Live mode is not a preview pane: it styles the same buffer you type in. Tables and KaTeX math wait for Read.
- Read mode renders tables and KaTeX math. Live mode styles headings, emphasis, code and links; tables and math remain source.
- Themes: Night (default, ink and gold) and Ink (warm parchment). System is an explicit option.
- Crash snapshots every five seconds while the buffer is dirty. Autosave is off on desktop and on for mobile.
- Windows and Linux installers are built in CI and attached to the GitHub release. They are unsigned in the beta. Windows NSIS and MSI are 2.1 MB and 2.6 MB. Linux ships .deb and .rpm; the AppImage exceeds the 10 MB installer budget and is not shipped.
- Mobile file model: a picked file is copied into the app sandbox and leaves through the share sheet.
